About Me

Learning is life’s greatest treasure, and I’ve got plenty to study!  I hope to post some nuggets of knowledge here concerning life as an ALT in Japan that will be helpful to avid planners (like me) and casual readers alike.

My name is Melodi (or メル), and I’m a recent graduate from Auburn University that has been accepted by Tuscaloosa Sister Cities International to participate in a teacher exchange program located in Narashino, Chiba, Japan.

I’ve always adored languages.  When I was a kid, I used to make up my own and teach them to my little brother so that we could communicate in secret!  However, in middle school, I realized that I should probably learn a “real” language, and after hearing Japanese in a song, I knew I had found the one I wanted to learn.  The more I studied, the more I fell in love with the culture, and speaking with people from all over the world only solidified my desire to go out and experience as much as I can.  I am honored to get to do just that with TSCI and the schools in Narashino!

As for other interests of mine, I enjoy reading, writing, singing, and spinning flag (colorguard)!  I marched with the AUMB for three years, serving as captain of the flagline for one of those years.  Petting cats is my true passion, though!

My best bud, Waldo. Hobbies include: Eating food, looking at the food bowl, asking for food, and sudoku. He also does modeling on the side.
